Radio Communications

Some central themes: Wireless communication. Analogue and digital modulation methods Transmitters and receivers for modulated signals. Modulation methods. Frequency synthesis and oscillators. Wave transmission and radio link calculations. Antennas. Selected topics from different fields such as satellite communication, underwater communication, etc. Wireless sensor networks and their applications.

Skills: The candidate must:

• have an understanding of wireless transmitters/receivers, be able to draw a block diagram and describe the function of the individual parts, as well as make calculations on these
• know different modulation types and explain their properties.know different antenna types and their characteristics.have knowledge of what affects transmission conditions.
• know the Internet of Things and the application of the latest wireless communication technology in the area.
• know key areas and selected applications within satellite communication and underwater communication.
• understand the characteristics and challenges of using wireless sensor networks.
• know selected, relevant research within applications of wireless communication.

Skills: The candidate can:

• describe and perform calculations on current radio systemsselect the type of wireless communication and network.
• set up a wireless communication link, measure key parameters, assess and optimize performance.

General competence: The candidate must:

• know basic concepts in radio technology and have an understanding of the structure of wireless/radio-based communication systemsknow the motivation, requirements and areas of use for wireless instrumentation.
• have an understanding of the characteristics, possibilities and limitations of industrial standards, their similarities and differences

Project work carried out individually and in groups. Problem- and dialogue-based learning methods in combination with lectures. A selection of workshops. Guest supervisors and an excursion.
