About this course

Content

The course aims to provide students with hands-on experience in designing, implementing and documenting a dedicated electronic system using problem-based learning (PBL). This includes a focus on student-driven learning, interdisciplinary collaboration and an iterative approach to problem solving. Students will apply and further develop knowledge and skills from previous and/or parallel courses to complete a holistic project from idea to advanced prototype.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

The students will:

  • Have a broad knowledge of methods and processes for the development of electronic systems, including principles for design, implementation and testing.
  • Understand theories and issues related to the development of complex technological systems, and be able to put these in a societal and ethical context.
  • Understand and be able to apply PBL methodology as an approach to problem solving, project organization and teamwork.

Skills

The students will be able to:

  • Apply relevant tools, techniques and methods to develop functional electronic systems.
  • Identify and analyze problems, develop specifications and implement solutions based on requirements and constraints.
  • Plan and execute a project using iterative processes and continuous improvement.
  • Perform tests and evaluations to ensure that developed systems meet functionality and performance requirements.
  • Document and communicate project work and results in technical reports and video presentations in a structured and professional manner.

General competence

The students will:

  • Collaborate effectively in interdisciplinary teams with clearly defined roles and responsibilities.
  • Reflect on and evaluate their own and others' contributions in project work, and use feedback for continuous learning and improvement.
  • Understand and relate to ethical, environmental and societal implications of technological solutions.
  • Plan and carry out work that requires both independence and collaboration within given time and resource constraints.

Teaching methods

Project work in groups. Dialogue-based forms of learning.
