About this course

Content

Application of one or more of the following measurement methods: electrical, mechanical, optical, biological or electromagnetic. System characteristics. Lumped modelling and SPICE-simulation. Low-power sensor interface. Transmission line. Noise and interference. Signal conditioning. Signal processing. Measurement accuracy. Graphic programming with virtual instrumentation and programming in LabVIEW. Project planning, project work, data presentation and reporting.

Learning outcomes

Expected Learning Outcomes:

Knowledge: After completing the course, the candidate should be able to: - explain the behaviour and characteristics of selected biological, mechanical or optical sensors - describe and interpret static and dynamic characteristics of measurement systems - describe effect of noise and interference, as well as describe methods for reducing them - the principles and use of computer assisted measurement techniques with control of instruments, measuring equipment and data collection/transfer.

Skills: After completing the course, students should be able to: - design measurement system that meet requirements wrt. accuracy and dynamic response - model signal and noise and calculate expected target accuracy in a measurement system - program data acquisition and data presentation - document experiments and measurement data.

General competence: After completing the course, students should be able to: - evaluate specifications, design, construction, and operate a sensor system.
