About this course

Content

Network models. Analog and digital transmission. Multiplexing and spread spectrum technique. Transmission media. Circuit and packet switching. Error detection. Protocols and architecture.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

- Have a broad knowledge of central themes, theories and issues within network models, protocols and architectures for communication systems.

- Have a broad knowledge in analogue and digital transmission techniques.

- Knowledge of research and development works in the transmission of electromagnetic signals on transmission lines and wireless.

Skills

- Can apply principles, methods and techniques used to transfer data between data equipment over long and short distances when transmitted with electromagnetic waves along transmission cables and wireless channels.

- Can calculate and evaluate the capacity of a communication system.

- Can master relevant tools and expressions.

- Can update their knowledge within the standards and protocols used in data communication.

General competence

- Can plan and carry out various tasks in the field of data transmission.

- Can reflect on their own professional practice and adjust it under supervision.

Compulsory work requirements: 8 out of 11 submissions must be approved to be able to take the exam.
