About this course

Content

Electrical components. Analogue interface to digital circuits. Signal conditioning. Sensors. Noise analysis and modeling. EMC. Grounding strategies and signal integrity. Heat conduction and dissipation. Clock sources for digital circuits. 3D printing. Construction and manufacturing of printed circuit boards (PCB). Schematics, simulation, layout, soldering, testing and troubleshooting.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge - The candidate shall be able to:

  • Explain the process of developing and producing electronic equipment.
  • Knowledge of circuit design, layout, circuit boards, assembly, soldering and testing.
  • Explain the properties of different types of passive components such as resistors, capacitors and inductors.
  • Explain principles for reducing the effects of noise and EMC in electronic systems.
  • Explain how physical quantities can be transferred to electrical signals.
  • Explain different methods of digitizing an electrical signal.
  • Knowledge of the principle of 3D printing.

Skills - The candidate shall be able to:

  • Analyze, model and simulate electronic circuits using computer tools.
  • Use CAD tools to draw and make layout of electrical circuit boards.
  • Create documentation for production of a printed circuit board.
  • Mount electrical components on a PCB using soldering.
  • Test and troubleshoot a manufactured electronic circuit board.
  • Use AI-based tools in a critical, honest and reflective manner.

General competence - The candidate shall be able to:

  • Document in writing the process of developing, making and testing an electronic equipment.
