About this course

Content

The course consists of three main parts:

1. Introduction to Distributed Computing

• Large-scale simulations should be distributed, whenever possible. We establish a fundamental understanding of distributed computing and simulation.

2. Distributed computing models and architecture

• Basics of computer architecture, networks, and their impact on performance.

• Distributed computing models and architecture for simulation.

• Types of distributed computing models and architecture for simulation.

3. Distributed simulation implementation

• Development of a basic distributed simulation system.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge:

• Have knowledge about the principles and challenges in the development of distributed simulation systems.

• Have knowledge about the design of distributed simulation systems.

Skills:

• Be able to implement a basic distributed simulation system.

Genreral competence:

• Be able to discuss and communicate the possibilities and limitations in the field of distributed simulation systems.

Teaching methods

Lectures, video lectures, exercises, mandatory project assignments.

There will be mandatory project assignments. The number of mandatory project assignments, as well as their deadlines will be given at the start of the course.
