About this course

Content

- Inductance, capacitance and resistance of overhead lines and cables
- Symmetrical components
- Measurement technology in the power system
- Reactive power compensation
- Control
- of power stations
- of load flow
- Calculation of symmetrical / unsymmetrical faults (e.g. short circuits or phase failures)
- Protection of the power system

Learning outcomes

The candidate has knowledge about
- reactive power compensation
- dimensioning of the power grid for the effects of short circuits
- measurement technology in power systems
- grounding in the power system
- faults in the power system
- protection of the power system

The candidate can
- calculate for example inductance, capacitance or resistance of overhead lines or cables
- calculate voltage drop and load flow in power grids
- calculate the electric effect of different faults in the power system
- dimension single components in a power system

The candidate will be able to participate in constructive technical discussions within his subject area.

Teaching methods

Lectures, laboratory work, exercises and field trips
