About this course

Content

This course will give an introduction into the functional principle, application area and construction of electric machines, that means:
- Transformers
- DC-machines
- Asynchronous machines
- Synchronous machines

It will also include
- Dynamics in electric machines
for example while starting or at switching actions.

In addition an introduction into the functional principle of different
- Power electronic converters
will be given.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge:
- Knowing and understanding the functional principles of electric machines an power electronic converters.
- Knowing and understanding the advantageous and disadvantageous of different machine types.
- Knowing basics about the construction of electric machines.
- Understanding different faults in electric machines.

Skills:
- Being able to calculate for example currents, voltages, torque, speed, powers of electric machines.
- Being able to choose an advantageous transformer, motor type and power electronic converter for a given application.

Competence:
- The candidate will be able to participate in constructive technical discussions within his subject area.
