Learning outcomes
Learning outcome - Knowledge:
The candidate has
- knowledge of basic measurement technics, and how to realize a measuring chain
- an understanding of how statistics can be applied in a complete manner, i.e. how statistics is a necessary tool to be able to measure, describe and evaluate results
- basic knowledge of probability theory, central probability distributions and the theoretical basis of estimation, confidence intervals and hypothesis testing
Learning outcome - Skills:
The candidate can
- apply instruments and procedures to perform measurements.
use computers for acquisition, analysis and presentation of measurements
- do basic probability calculations
- do estimation, hypothesis testing and simple correlation-/regression analysis
- interpret descriptive statistics
- report and present results from laboratory work
Learning outcome - Competence:
The candidate can
- evaluate the use of instruments and methods for different measurement tasks
- obtain relevant answers to special problem settings through the use of statistical inquiries and methods
- apply statistical thinking and methods, and express this in oral and written presentations
Teaching methods
Pedagogical methods:
Lectures, exercises and laboratory work in groups.
Mandatory requirements:
The students shall carry out three laboratory projects in groups of 2-4 students. For each project a written report shall be handed in within a given time limit. Admission to the exam requires approval of all three compulsory reports.
At least three individual tests will be given in Blackboard. At least three of these must be approved for admission to the exam.
