Project development and management

Theory and practice on research project management, particularly doctoral research projects, their known challenges and available knowledge and tools on tackling those challenges. Basic insight into Risk assessment methods and response planning.

The participants of this course will gain an understanding and be able to present and discuss the following topics: - Research project management, particulary doctoral research with insights into typical characteristics and known challenges such as uncertainty, requirements and expectations. - Relevant soft factors in research projects such as collaboration, communication and stakeholder management. - Application of project management tools (specifically time and deliverable planning) as a systematic approach to manage a PhD project and to address the challenges. - Basic insight into Risk assessment methods and response planning. In addition to the acquired knowledge, course participants will learn how to apply project management tools to their PhD projects and how to address common challenges. The course outcome will be a report where the participants show the application of the acquired skills and knowledge on their own individual PhD projects.

The course will be conducted online. It will use a combination of recommended readings (literature), recorded lectures and webinars, and a final report produced by the participants. This report will demonstrate the participants’ ability to apply the learning outcomes on their own PhD project.
