Research Methodology in Sport Sciences

The course offers an introduction to basic methods for the social sciences and sport science. This includes methods of data collection, the collection of data, creating instruments for data collection (interview guide, questionnaire, accelerometer, heart rate monitor) and basic data analysis. Basic theory of science and research ethics is part of the course.

Knowledge
Students will:
* have basic knowledge of research methods in the social sciences, including development of research questions, choice of research design, selection of investigative units and data collection.
* know of basic principles for both qualitative and quantitative analysis
* know basic rules of research ethics.

Skills
Stundents will:
* write an academic paper based on quantitative data and basic quantitative analysis
* write an academic paper based on qualitative data and basic qualitative analysis
* be able to make use of core instruments in sport science

Lectures 4 hours per week. Four hours of group discussion/pc lab every week with supervision. The organization, number and requirements of the exercises will be presented at the start of the term. Form of assessment: 5 hours written exam.
