About this course

Content

Modelling and strength analysis of complex structures using hand calculation methods and computer analysis.

 Design of complex structures made from concrete, steel and timber, based on Eurocodes.

 Methods to control the results of analyzes conducted with data tools.

 Methodology for assessing environmental impacts and resource use in designing building structures.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge:

Basic theories and methods for design of complex building structures based on Eurocodes.

Principles and methods for design of joints in structural system.

How environmental aspects can be included in the choice of materials and structural systems. 

 

Skills:

Perform strength analysis analyze and design of complex building structures made from of concrete, steel and timber.

Consider environmental aspects, durability and use of resources in selecting structural systems and materials.

Analyze and design complex building structures using contemporary software and implement European standard NS-EN.

Verify the results of calculations performed by means of contemporary software.

Earthquake dimensioning.

General competence:

Master terminology and can communicate with people in the field of civil engineering.

Have a skeptical view of the results from computer analysis.

Can select structural systems and materials in a holistic perspective.

Teaching methods


Lectures, exercises, using modern software. Compulsory written assignments.  

Obligatoriske arbeidskrav:

Mandatory written exercises. Number assignments may vary - but is 7 -10.
