About this course

Content

This course deals with knowledge creation, use and institutionalization. The exploration and exploitation of knowledge are key elements in innovation research and practice.

Topics ranging from creativity to interfirm collaboration depend in part on the management of organizational knowledge.

The skillful management of knowledge not only affects organizations' abilities to innovate, it is the heart of the dynamics of innovation.

The course also deals with the management of creativity and creative teams in organizations, as well as design driven innovation.

Design driven innovation focuses on how companies create competitive advantage through innovations that do not come from the market but that create new markets through products and services with new meaning.

Learning outcomes

Students will gain both an overview of the knowledge and creative management literature, as well as more in depth knowledge in key areas. Successful students will achieve sufficient mastery in this area to be able to exploit this body of research in their own research projects, and to participate in international academic discourse.

Teaching methods

The course is intended for PhD candidates at the Norwegian Research School in Innovation (NORSI).

This course is discussion based. This means that students are required to come prepared to discuss all the readings. Faculty will use introductory, intermittent and summary lectures to initiate, direct and lead the discussions of each topic in the course.
