About this course

Content

Energy Finance is an intensive PhD course over 3 days given by Professor Ehud Ronn, McCombs School of Business, University of Texas at Austin.

Learning outcomes

Commodity finance, particularly in the petroleum and electricity markets, is an important topic for Norway in several of the fields of managerial economics. For many commodities, there exists an active financial market for price hedging. In this course the students will learn about these (with emphasis on the energy market) in the context of risk management, how to interpret price information, estimation of price processes, valuation and real options analysis.

Teaching methods

Lectures and problem sets. Grading in the course will be based on individual hand-in of solutions to problem sets.
