Psychosocial work - different practices, theories and ethical dilemma

The course focuses on the psychosocial work of different practices in services for youth and children. Central teaching themes are: - different forms of preventive and health-promoting work and methods and measures in psychosocial work. Communication and conversation with children are important approaches. The course focuses as well on development of ability of ethical and critical reflections on dilemmas in the students own practice.

Knowledge - The candidate who have completed the course:

• has advanced knowledge on communication, different methods and practice in psychosocial work with children and young persons.
• has advanced knowledge of preventive and health- promoting psychosocial work
• has and can apply knowledge of crises, mediation and conflict management
• has in-depth knowledge of ethical theories and professional ethics

Skills:

• can use communication skills creating participation and mastery in the meeting with children and youth
• can use relevant methods, activities and- methodology in practice with children and youth
• can analyze and deal critically with ethical dilemmas and options in own practice

General competence:

• can apply his/her knowledge and skills to investigate, identify and strengthen resources in the child's living condition
• can participate in and establish health and mastering enhancing relations with children, youth and their families
• can communicate about own responsibility and apply the particular field of psychosocial work with children, youth and adolescents
