Applied Clinical Research

The course gives an introduction to applied clinical research. Lectures include central elements and terms related to clinical research that the student encounters in planning and accomplishing clinical studies. For instance, introduction to clinical and epidemiological research designs, selection strategies and randomisation, analysis strategies, outcome measures, interpretation and implementation of clinical research. The framework of a research protocol is discussed. Furthermore, the course will promote understanding of clinical outcome and measurement methods, including validity, reliability and quality assessment of measurement data. The lectures will to a large extent use examples from the clinic and clinical research, including discussions of various clinical problems

The student should acquire general knowledge in clinical research, design of research protocol, measurement methods, interpretation and implementation of clinical research. The paramount objective for the student is to acquire knowledge to plan and carry out smaller studies in clinical settings.
