Suicide Prevention

The course will give an overview of epidemiological issues such as prevalence and risk factors for different types of suicidal behaviour. Different explanatory theories/models will be emphasised to illuminate the complexity involved in suicidal acts and to provide a basic and contextual understanding of what suicidal behavior can be about. A number of suicide preventive strategies and efforts will be reviewed and discussed. Attitudinal and ethical issues connected to suicide prevention will be emphasized throughout the course.

The students will have a basic understanding of what suicidal behavior can be about so they critically can evaluate existing suicide preventive strategies and efforts, and contribute to develop and implement adequate such.

Teaching method and activities: Seminars, lectures and group supervision. Attendance is compulsory.
Max 25 students can attend the course, and students from the departement have priority.
