Great Power Politics since 1900

HIST2810 is an advanced undergraduate seminar in international political history after 1900. The course's main emphasis is on the German problem before 1945 and American foreign policy after World War II, as well as British foreign policy for the entire century, along with conflicts in the Middle East, Vietnam and the Far East from a great power perspective.

A candidate is expected to have the following learning outcome, defined as knowledge and skills, after course:

Knowledge
The candidate is expected to
- have knowledge about the relations between the great powers
- have extensive knowledge about the German Problem 1900-1945, the Cold War and the role played by the US in the Cold War, Great Britan's position throughout the period, and knowledge about the conflicts in the Middle East, Vietnam and the Far East i perspective of the great powers
- have knowledge and an overview of the different theories in international political history in the period
- have an overview of the most important debates in the period

Skills
The candidate is expected to
- be able to evaluate and analyze the different historical events in the period based on different theories in international political history
- use theories and knowledge from this course in independent studies

Lectures. One assignment during the course, and a six hour final examn.
