History and Knowledge

This subject will focus on the creation, dissemination and use of knowledge, as considered in a social, cultural and historical framework. It also examines the role knowledge and information have played both in diverse social groups and in the development of society in general.

The focus of this subject will be on the 18th century and the time of Enlightenment.

The history of school, university and science, and the important roles these institutions have played in society will form a major focus.

The subject seeks to provide students an understanding and an overview of the most important events in development of European and Norwegian societies in the selected period, with a focus on the history of knowledge.
