Bachelor's Thesis in History

The bachelor thesis is a written assignment where the student discusses an historical topic, chosen in consultation with a teacher. The aim of the course is to give students skills in writing an academic text. At the end of the course, students are expected to be able to document sources, reflect historically, analyse information and develop a coherent argument. The thesis should be between 10.000 and 12.000 words.

Students are expected to have the following learning outcome:

Knowledge:

• comprehensive knowledge about the chosen topic

Skills:

• ability to develop a hypothesis or research question and carry out an historical analysis based on literature and/or sources
• The candidate should be able to discuss and to draw conclusions.
• The candidate should be able to read and analyse sources in a critical way.
• The candidate should be able to construct and communicate historical arguments.
• The candidate should be able to express him/herself in correct academic prose and learn how to find and cite relevant literature and sources.

Writing thesis, supervision, lecture/seminar. Topic and problem must be approved by the supervisor.

Supervision and 2 written assignments are compulsory.
