Modern History after 1850

This is an introductory course in international, European and Nowegian history after 1850. The course covers political, economic as well as social history.

A main objective is to understand Norwegian history in an international context. By a social historical approach the course also aims to present different aspects of life and society, showing that they are in close relation to each other.

A candidate who passes this course is expected to have the following learning outcome according to the course curriculum, defined as knowledge and skills: Knowledge: The candidate - has broad knowledge in central political, economical and social history in the period after ca. 1850 - is familiar with different perspectives used by historians to explain fundamental historical themes in the period Skills: The candidate - is able to explain central historical developments in the period after ca. 1850 - is able to carry through a source analysis that complies with the requirements of academic writing - has achieved basic knowledge required to proceed to more advanced studies in the period
