STS: Innovation, Knowledge and Communication I

The course will present theories of innovation, technological development, production of knowledge and research from a STS (science and technology studies) perspective. These areas have great influence upon modern societies, and involve political, ethical and governmental questions. The course will be concentrated on the following issues:
*Innovation: different cultures and models of innovation
*The relation between technology and society
*Knowledge management and knowledge work
*Scientific and political controversies

Students will learn to analyze various aspects of technology, innovation, knowledge and policy. This will give the student (as a future expert/knowledge worker), a theoretical basis in handling challenges concerning knowledge management and technological development

Lectures, term papers and supervised study groups. Participation in the study groups is compulsory. Assessment is based on a term paper. If less than five students register for this course, all instruction and/or supervision will be arranged by the Department for Interdisciplinary Studies of Culture.
