Treatment and Care in Child Welfare Work

The subject mainly consists of the subjects of foster care work and environmental therapeutic work in and outside the institution
- current laws, regulations and rights
- history and development features within measures and treatment
- the knowledge base for environmental therapeutic work in and outside institutions
- different theories, perspectives and working methods
- institutional sociology
- relational skills in action and treatment
- transition from child welfare measures to adulthood
- training of foster parents and foster parents' tasks
- responses and needs of children and parents during replacement
- child welfare role and tasks in relation to follow-up of children, parents and foster parents
- relation between children and family
- activity subjects as part of course

Knowledge
Students who have completed the course have
– knowledge of and can explain the legal and organizational framework relevant to the work in measures and treatment
- wide knowledge of key theories and methods in working with vulnerable children, youth and families in measures and treatment
- wide knowledge of the reactions and needs of children, young people and parents in connection with moving outside the home
- knowledge about the use of different activities in work with vulnerable kids.

Skills
Students who have completed the course may:
- apply legal method in the work of action and treatment
- apply central theories and methods of working with vulnerable children, youth and families in action and treatment
- understand and reflect on the reactions and needs of children, youth and families in action and treatment
- apply relationship skills in interaction with children , young people and their families
- identify and reflect on professional and ethical challenges in child welfare work - use the activity subject in environmental therapy with vulnerable children and youth

General competence
Students who have completed the course can:
- apply theory and methodology in child welfare work in cooperation with children and young people and their families,
- reflect on their own skills, relationship challenges and professional demands
- understand resource, organizational and legal directions and challenges associated with professional work
- understand the needs of children, youth and families for support and follow-up and child welfare responsibility in action and treatment
