About this course

Content

- Review of the fundamentals of statistics and linear algebra (matrix calculations) - Adjustment calculations with the Least Squares' method - Observation equations from different measuring methods: precision leveling, angles, distances, 3D satellite vectors. - Weighting of observation equations from different measuring methods: precision leveling, angles, distances and 3D satellite vectors. - Theory of gross error detection, framework test, internal reliability, external reliability, and the relevant Norwegian standards - Control network design and simulation - Fundamentals of GNSS measuring methods. Fundamentals of GNSS vector processing. - Control point establishment with total station and static GNSS observed 3D vectors - Adjustment calculations and network analysis using different software packages.

Learning outcomes

After completing the subject, the students will earn the following Knowledge: - A good understanding of the principles of Least Squares based adjustment calculations and analyses of surveying data coming from different observations methods (leveling, total stations, GNSS). - Digitalization of adjustment calculation workflows: knowledge on using the most popular surveying software packages for solving real world tasks on the field of adjustment, and knowledge on performing analyses of data from leveling, total station, and GNSS based observations. - Being able to interpret the relevant professional standards and prepare documentation based on those. General competencies: Students will be able to independently design, measure and post-process a control point network meeting quality criteria determined by the relevant professional standards.

Teaching methods

- Lectures

- Project work

- Supervision

- The course has compulsory work requirements that must be completed at the campus of NTNU in Gjøvik. The schedule for this will be handed out at the start of the semester.

The course can be given as a guided self-study if less than 6 students are registered.
