Palaeoclimate and the Sedimentary Record

The effects of palaeoclimate on sedimentary deposits from various depositional environments, and their expressions in the stratigraphic record. Climate changes and their causes throughout geological history.

Knowledge: Students will gain basic knowledge about the palaeoclimate history of the Earth including the causes of changes, and the principles and methods used to study these changes in the sedimentary/stratigraphic record.

Skills: Students will be able to determine palaeoclimate signals, and to analyse a sedimentary record with respect to palaeoclimate changes.

Lectures and compulsory exercises. A field trip may be run during weekends.
