Regional Changes - Settlement, Migration and Local Development

Central themes are changes in settlement- and settlement patterns, regionalization and regional politics, urban- and rural Development, migration, choice of residence and the phenomenon of Norwegian cottages. The interaction between economic- social and cultural factors is emphasized. The course contains primarily Norwegian/Nordic relationships, but discuss these in a broader, comparative perspective.

Knowledge: The students shall get knowledge about regional changes and urban- and rural trends, illuminated from a social- and cultural geographical perspective.
Skills: The students should be able to analyze and discuss central research questions related to urban- and rural development, patterns of migration, choice of residence, regionalization and regional politics, and discuss the relationships between these topics.
General competence: The students should be able to work independently, and have a critical and analytic approach to central regional Research questions. They should also be able to convey relevant subjects related to regional change.

This course will not be taught in the study year 2018/2019.

16 hours tuition, projects/field course report and presentation.
