Earth's Natural Environment

The course provides an introduction to drivers and processes in the interaction between the atmosphere, hydrosphere, geosphere and biosphere. Global variations are mentioned but special focus is on Norway. The main focus of the course will be on geomorphology, the science of landformes and earth surface processes. Through the compulsory field course and lectures, the course will discuss the main features of the Norwegian landscape.

Learning objectives:
The course aims to provide basic knowledge on geomorphology, hydrology, geology climate and vegetation at both global and local scales.

Skills:
The mandatory field-course shall give the candidate basic skills in landscape description and interpretation of characteristic small- and large scale landformes and landscapes, and assessment of some management challenges connected to natural hazard in Norway.

General competence:
The candidate has knowledge about fundamental questions in physical geography, and can communicate basic knowledge.

30 hours lectures and fieldwork.
