About this course
Content
The course is a continuation of FY3464 Quantum Field Theory I and TFY4210 Quantum theory of many particle systems.
Renormalization and the renormalization group. Critical phenomena Spontaneous symmetry breakdown. The Goldstone theorem. The Higgs mechanism. Effective field theories and applications.
Learning outcomes
The student is expected to obtain insight into the most important aspects of quantum field theories.
In particular, students are expected to obtain knowledge about the
renormalization group, critical phenomena, thermal field theory,
symmetries and symmetry breaking, effective field theories and
applications.
Teaching methods
Lectures and problem sessions. When lectures and lecture material are in English, the exam may be given in English only.
The re-sit examination (in August) may be changed from written to oral.
