About this course

Content

The course treats basic and central parts of modern subatomic physics with a focus on theoretical tools. The properties of atomic nuclei and basic elementary particle physics are discussed as well as perturbative treatments of electromagnetic and weak processes, scattering and decay processes. Alpha processes are discussed in great detail. Astroparticle physics including astrophysical aspects of neutrinos is briefly touched upon.

Learning outcomes

The goal of the course is to give an elementary introduction to modern subatomic physics, with a focus on theories of atomic nuclei, the interactions among elementary particles, and astroparticle physics. The students should learn to formulate and solve problems, both analytically and numerically using a computer.

Teaching methods

Lectures and obligatory home problems.
