About this course
Content
The course gives a general introduction to quantum physics, including a brief survey of the historical development and a short description of early, crucial experimental work in support of the theory. The main topic is Schrödinger's equation, with simple applications to one-and three-dimensional systems. Examples are the quantum harmonic oscillator, tunneling phenomena, and hydrogen-like atoms. Pauli's exclusion principle, and the effect of electron spin on atomic spectral lines, is discussed.
Learning outcomes
The students is expected to obtain basic knowledge in elementary quantum physics and be able to solve simple problems with mathematical methods involving differential equations, integrals etc.
Teaching methods
Lectures, compulsory exercises and laboratory experiments.
