About this course
Content
A general introduction to Newtonian mechanics, including oscillations, as well as special relativity. Newton's laws. Conservation of energy, momentum, and angular momentum. Mechanical oscillations. Gravitation. Special relativity. Experimental methods: Measuring physical quantities, data acquisition, interpretation, and documentation.
Learning outcomes
The student is expected to:
- Obtain, through a combined theoretical and experimental approach to the subject, a fundamental understanding of Newtonian mechanics and special relativity.
- Learn the definition and the use of key concepts such as energy, momentum, and angular momentum.
- Learn to construct equations for infinitesimal quantities and solve these by integration.
- Gain experience in analyzing problems within mechanics with ICT based methods.
- Learn experimental methods in physics.
- Obtain basic training in writing a scientific report.
Teaching methods
Lectures, compulsory laboratory exercises, calculation exercise classes with compulsory attendance, compulsory numerical exercise. The project in Realstart and Teknostart is part of the course and must be completed. The students' expected workload in the course is 225 hours.
