Bachelor Film and Bachelor Thesis in Film Production

FVP2200 is a 30-credit, practical, full time production course at secondary level, where students produce their Bachelor's Film and write the associated Bachelor's Thesis in the sixth and final semester of the Bachelor's programme.

The run of the course facilitates the production of the students' graduation film (Bachelor's Film), as well as the students immersion in relevant disciplinary functions, areas of responsibility and production related issues associated with this production through an individual written work (Bachelor's Thesis)

Throughout the course students produce:

• a Bachelor's Film - the graduation film of the programme
• a Bachelor's Thesis - in the form of an artistic development and/or a practically focused production study. This written work must be an immersion in and reflection upon the student's individual film disciplinary and creative areas of responsibility connected with the production of the Bachelor's Film.

Knowledge

Upon successful completion of this course the student has knowledge of:

• distinctive professional roles in production; such as directing, producing, cinematography, lighting, editing, sound design and production design
• techniques, tools and workflow for digital film production
• film development, pre-production, production, post-production, distribution and financing within the framework of the contemporary Norwegian film industry

Skills

Upon successful completion of this course the student knows how to:

• exercise and manage specific professional roles and responsibilities in film production individually and collectively
• develop and write industry standard documents connected to film development, pre-production, production, post-production, distribution and / or financing
• develop and apply visual and audio strategies to create desired effects, experiences and aesthetics

Lectures, seminars, group sessions, supervision, screenings and production work

In order to take the final exam of the course, the student must have documented attendance of 80%. Absence of up to 20% covers non-attendance due to illness or other, documentable causes. Absence exceeding the 20% limit is not accepted, even if it's caused by circumstances the student are not responsible for. In special cases, like serious or long-term illness, the student can receive adapted teaching by application to the department.

It is the responsibility of the student to keep up to date on messages from the department or lecturers on Canvas. The course is taught in Norwegian only.
