Idea- and script development

FVP2003 is a practical production course at secondary level. The students acquire knowledge and skills in idea- and script development. The course focuses on the individual screenwriting projects of each student and explores central issues in regards to script development and screenwriting.

Knowledge

Upon successful completion of the course the student has knowledge of:

• the distinctive characteristics and function of the film script
• the dramaturgical construction of film stories
• the development and writing of characters, story universe, dialog, action, narrative perspective and subtext
• the screenwriters perspective on film formats, film genres and adaptation for film
• idea- and script development processes

Skills

​Upon successful completion of the course the student knows how to:

• develop their own ideas and scripts
• apply dramaturgical models in the analysis of film ideas and film scripts
• present and discuss film ideas and film scripts in both oral and written form

Lectures, seminars, group sessions and written / production work.

Course requirements: Compulsory written / production work. The number of written / production works that must be submitted will be specified by the course supervisor at the start of the course.

In order to take the final exam of the course, the student must have documented attendance of 80%. Absence of up to 20% covers non-attendance due to illness or other, documentable causes. Absence exceeding the 20% limit is not accepted, even if it's caused by circumstances the student are not responsible for. In special cases, like serious or long-term illness, the student can receive adapted teaching by application to the department.

It is the responsibility of the student to keep up to date on messages from the department or the teacher on Canvas. The course is taught in Norwegian only.
