Supervised Independent Study II

In consultation with ISH and the appointed supervisor, the students can select a topic free of choice and have this as an optional course in their Master degree. The reading of the course will normally be selected in such a way that it thematically supports the work on the Master thesis, and therefore this course will usually not be chosen as a first-semester course. The department (ISH) will appoint a supervisor, and both the topic as well as the reading list must be approved by the department, by the recommendation of the supervisor.

Give the student practice in developing a topic for discussion and to carry out a limited analysis of this.

Teaching method and activities: Two hours supervision.
Compulsory activity: Approved topic and reading list for term paper. Deadlines for applying for approval of topic and supervisor is 15th February for the Spring semester and 15th September for the Autumn semester.
Form of assessment: Term paper. The oral exam is meant to adjust the mark on the term paper.
The paper must be an independent discussion of a specific problem within the thematic area of the topic, and it should be around 10000 words. The oral exam is primarily about the exam paper, but the student can also be asked to discuss topics from the entire reading list.
