Specialization Course

The course has a common component which aims to prepare students for the practical and theoretical work a Master's thesis implies.

Modern French linguistics: The course covers French grammar in the broadest sense. Topics are treated in light of selected theories, disciplines or methods of research, with a contrastive look at Norwegian.

Literature: The course may address authorship, literary periods, genres or literary themes.

Specialization in French cultural studies is possible in the project proposal.

Specialisation in modern French linguistics:
The candidate
- has knowledge of and insight into a selected topic within French linguistics
- is able to make use of linguistic methods and specialised research questions in order to analyse selected linguistic topics
- is able to write an academic project proposal

Specialisation in French literature:
The candidate
- has knowledge of and insight into a selected topic within French literature studies
- is able to make use of methods from literature studies in order to analyse a sample of texts
- is able to write an academic project proposal

Lectures and seminars.
Assessment: A project proposal for the master's thesis, 8-10 pages. Students work on the proposal throughout the semester. An oral exam, approx. 30 min., in relation to the required reading for the course and/or to the project proposal.
Both parts of the exam are graded together. Failing one part of the exam entails failing the whole course. Students who fail must sit both parts of the exam again.
