Translation

The course gives practical training in the use of French at a high level. By means of exercises in translation, emphasis is given to contrastive aspects of Norwegian/French language.

The candidate
- is able to demonstrate basic knowledge of French grammar
- knows how to create sentences and is able to translate complex phrases
- has an adequate vocabulary for translating authentic texts about various topics such as French society and culture
- is, where necessary, able to rephrase a text in order to avoid a word-for-word translation
- is trained in a translation practice where the freedom to rephrase figuratively is evaluated in relation to the type of text that is being translated
- is able to make expedient use of a French dictionary

Lectures and group sessions with discussions. Students are expected to actively participate in the lectures by presenting translations.
