Specialization in French literature

A selection of French literary and cultural works is studied through several different perspectives, such as thematic, rhetorical, narrative, and literary-historical approaches. Dimensions of the texts related to cultural or literary-historical context, history of ideas, or genre will be a central aspect of the course. The course also emphasises critical reflection.

Candidates who have completed this course

- have advanced knowledge of a selection of French literary and cultural works

- can apply various approaches, methods, and theoretical perspectives in the analysis of these works

- have advanced knowledge of the social and cultural-historical context of the works and their relevance to contemporary society

Skills

Candidates who have completed this course

- can apply various analytical perspectives to literary and cultural works

- can discuss the relation between various works in French with a critical approach to the texts

General competence

Candidates who have completed this course

- master academic presentations in oral and written French

- are able to structure and formulate ideas clearly and insightfully

- can demonstrate skills in the correct use of sources and relevant literary databases

Lectures and/or seminars. Teaching is offered in cooperation with the University of Bergen as an online course.

Obligatory assignments:

- One oral presentation (15 minutes)

- One written assignment of around 800 words

Approved obligatory assignments are valid for 2 semesters (the semester in which the approval is given, plus the following semester). All obligatory assignments must be completed in the same semester.
