Texts and Methods 2

The course has two components: literature and language. The course covers
a selection of contemporary French literature. The language component covers modern French syntax.

Exercises will be given to develop the student's oral and written proficiency in French.

Candidates who have passed this course
- are familiar with basic terms in literature studies and can utilise them in their own analysis.
- can analyse thematic aspects of a selection of texts from contemporary French literature.
- are able to place the text in its social context and in literary history.
- are able to explain how different verb tenses contribute to the expression of the text (verb tense semantics).
- are able to explain the most essential differences in the use of verb tense in Norwegian and French.
- are able to identify sampled semantic aspects of literary texts (e.g. connectives, adverbials, subordinate clauses, etc.), and explain how these structure texts.
- are able to present their knowledge in written and spoken French.

A combination of lectures and group activities. The course is taught in French.
