History of French Literature and Literary Analysis

Different periods in French literary history from the 16th century until the present are studied and exemplified through analysis of a selection of literary texts.

Candidates who have passed this course:
- have knowledge of the different periods in the literary history of French culture from the Renaissance until the present.
- have a vocabulary in French that characterises the different periods in literary history.
- are conscious of the delimitation of periods in literary history.
- possess a vocabulary about literary history that make them capable of expressing themselves, in speaking and in writing, about characteristic features of the different periods in literary history.
- are capable of considering the different aesthetical principles from a historical perspective and compare these with their experience of contemporary literature.

Lectures and seminars with discussions. Study groups. The course is taught in French.
