French foundation course

FRA0502 gives a further introduction to French language with emphasis on pronunciation, grammar and the vocabulary necessary to engage in conversations. The course also provides an introduction to the history and society of Francophone countries.

By attending FRA0502 you will also qualify to register for the DELF or DALF exams offered by the French Institute (Institut français) in Norway - diplomas to certify your French-language skills in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Knowledge

Candidates who have passed this course,

• have basic knowledge of French language, culture and society.
• are familiar with French phonetics/phonology.
• are familiar with basic French grammar for practical purposes.
• are familiar with the main features of economic, social and political aspects of French society.
• are familiar with and able to use different forms of address in French both in personal and professional contexts.
• have acquired a vocabulary for comparing cultural features in Norway with those of target language countries.

Skills

Candidates who have passed this course,

• can comprehend and are able to make themselves understood in writing and speaking at level A2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
• can understand simple texts and articles in French about cultural aspects in society.
• can write similar texts in French: notes, resumes, letters, e-mails and short essays, and are able to express themselves appropriately in formal written communication at a basic level.
