Current Research in Film and Media 2

FM3002 and FM3003 are theoretical film and media studies courses. The course instruction is research-based, which means that topics addressed in the course will vary according to the research interests of the teaching staff. Students will gain valuable insight into theoretical approaches and research methods, as well as a deeper knowledge of current research in the field, which will be useful as they embark on their own research for a master's thesis. The course is taught by alternating members of staff, and thus themed according to their current research topics: for instance, Climate Fiction, Production Studies, Genre Studies, Sound Studies, Media Ecology, or Mediated Representations of the Past.

Knowledge

Upon successful completion of the course the student has:

• deep insight into a specific research area or topic within film and media studies.
• knowledge of the relevant methodologies and theories of this special area or topic, and its place within film and media studies.
• increased understanding of ongoing research at the Department of Art and Media Studies.

Skills

Upon successful completion of the course the student knows how to:

• understand and evaluate relevant theories and methodologies, as well as the scope of the specific research field.
• discuss and produce research and findings in light of theories and methodologies relevant to the specific research field.

Lectures, seminars, screenings, and individual tutorials.

This course may be taught in Norwegian or English, pending staff availability.

Compulsory assignments

Up to 2 compulsory exercises must be completed and approved before students can take the course exam.
