About this course

Content

In this course, you will learn about aircraft systems and components. We will systematically cover the mechanical systems that make up an aircraft, focusing on their parts, operation, design requirements, and maintenance.

The design part includes dimensioning of components with respect to static strength, fatigue, and dynamic excitation, using analytical methods and finite element analysis.

In addition to providing foundational knowledge of mechanical aircraft systems, the course also introduces general principles of machine design.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge:

  • The candidate can explain the operation of aircraft in general and describe the technical principles, their failure modes and procedures for analysis and maintenance.

Skills:

  • The candidate is capable of acquiring and applying both existing and new knowledge in aircraft systems and components
  • The candidate can analyze mechanical aircraft systems using critical thinking, and making well-founded decisions based on technical and practical considerations.

General Competence:

  • The candidate uses relevant technology, tools, and software to manage design and maintenance tasks on aircraft and demonstrates sufficient digital competence to develop new methods for these tasks
