Bachelor thesis: Approaches to Film Analysis

FILM2202 is an undergraduate course that further develops the student's analytical understanding and independent application of film studies perspectives. The student chooses their bachelor thesis topic in line with one of the perspectives taught in the course.

The course is taken at the end of the bachelor program and it prepares students for studies on the master level.

Knowledge

After completing the course, the student has knowledge of:

• selected film analytical approaches
• a self-selected theme
• producing scholarly work

Skills

After completing the course, the student can:

• apply film analytical approaches
• conduct advanced and independent film analyses
• reflect on film theoretical arguments and the consequences of theoretical choices
• plan and carry out an independent film studies project
• present and justify issues in film studies, own findings, analyses and conclusions
• write a scholarly text

Lectures, screenings, student presentations and supervision in seminars and individually.

Obligatory activities: Seminar participation including an oral presentation on the theme of one’s bachelor thesis and feedback on fellow students' submissions.

Teaching is usually conducted in Norwegian, but English can also occur.
