Film, Culture and Society

The course covers historical, cultural, sociological and psychological aspects of film. Ideological aspects of institutions and particular films are discussed, such as gender issues and censorship, as well as a particular focus on the development of film criticism as an institution. In the area of film history the course is focused on developments within American and European film since the 70s and 80s, and gives a basic introduction to understanding film in national and global perspectives.

Emnet skal gi studentene en forståelse av de levende bildens rolle i samfunnet i et historisk perspektiv og skal i tillegg bidra til en kritisk forståelse av filmmediets betydning for publikum og kultur.

Compulsory assignment:
Students must pass an oral presentation before final assessment can be made.
