Pharmaceutical Innovation

The course deals with aspects within development of drugs, and gives a chronological overview of the different stages of the research - and development process in creating drugs. The course contains:

• Basic research /identification of new drug targets
• Preclinical and clinical tests of new drugs

After completion of the course, the student should be familiar with:

• Relevant methods and strategies for identification of novel drug targets
• Novel concepts within drug discovery and development, including nanopharmaceuticals
• Requirements to documentation and quality in different stages of the development process

After completion of the course, the student should be able to:

• Contribute to generation of preclinical documentation
• Contribute to design of clinical trials

After completion of the course, the student should:

• Understand how preclinical and clinical development programs must be adapted to the intended use of the drug candidate, including both indication and physical-chemical properties.
• Understand the quality, safety and efficacy requirements for regulatory approval of novel drugs.

The subject is taught weekly throughout the fall semester

Lectures, group work, seminars, presentations.

The course will be taught in English if international students have signed up for the course.
