Content

The molecular processes which creates the basis for the development of autoimmune diseases and cancer.

Learning outcomes

After completion of the course, the student can:
• Describe fundamental processes in adaptive immunity, such as antigen presentation and lymphocyte stimulation
• Describe the characteristics of acute and chronic inflammation, causes of inflammation, the cell types and signal transduction molecules involved and cell-cell interactions in the inflammatory process.
• Describe the development and survival of lymphocytes in thymus and bone marrow
• Describe unique properties of cancer cells and cellular mechanisms needed for formation of tumors.
• Understand principles for personalized treatment with anticancer drugs
• Describe targets and mechanisms for biologicals used in treatment of autoinflammatory diseases and cancer
• Understand the basis for healthcare service priorities, such as ethical and economical perspectives.
• Describe the role of pharmacotherapy in treatment of selected autoimmune diseases and cancer types
• Propose a treatment based on genetic and molecular data in selected autoimmune diseases and cancer types
• Describe treatment principles and strategies related to palliative/supportive care in cancer
