Norway and the EU after 1994

This course focuses on Norway's relationship with the EU after 1994. In 1994, the EEA Agreement entered into force. The agreement provided for a more comprehensive, dynamic and institutionalized relationship between Norway and the EU than what had previously been the case. Since 1994, Norway has entered a number of additional agreements with the EU, among them the Schengen Agreement and several agreements in the area of foreign- and security policy. In this same period, the EU has become an increasingly larger union that functions in different ways than what was the case in 1994. The course offers insight into Norway's association to an ever-changing European union as well as insight into the consequences of this association for central areas of the Norwegian society.


The course has the form of a seminar. Students are expected to participate actively.

A candidate who passes this course is expected to have the following learning outcome according to the course curriculum, defined as knowledge and skills:

- has comprehensive knowledge about the development of the EU post 1994
- has in-depth knowledge about Norway's association to the EU, as well as about the consequences of this association for central areas of the Norwegian society.


Skills
The candidate
- is able to account for, analyze and discuss Norway's relationship with the EU in the period.
- has a certain written and oral practice in doing this.
- is able to apply theory and empirical knowledge of this period in analytical work

One written assignment and one in class oral assignment.
