About this course
Content
Introduction to dispersed phase modelling at the nano-, micro-, and mini-scale. The effect of the dispersed phase on the hydrodynamics and and thermal properties and alternative modeling approaches. Phase separation issues at different scales and applications. Fundamental issues describing heat transfer and mass transfer of droplets and bubbles at the nano- and micro-scale. Characterisation of the surfaces at the nano-, micro-scale. Heat transfer enhancement during phase change due to modified surfaces. Examples of applications related to high heat fluxes system (cooling of electronics), condensation, and phase separation in micro-channels.
The course is given AUTUMN 2021
Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to provide a theoretical foundation of dispersed phase modelling. The student will gain fundamental understanding of the processes controlling the behaviour of the dispersed phase under different situations. After completion of this course, the student will have: knowledge on foundations of dispersed phase modeling, alternative descriptions of the dispersed phase, design of components involving a dispersed phase. After completion of this course, the student will have: an overview on dispersed phase modeling in several areas such as heat transfer during flow and pool boiling, liquid-liquid separation, gas-liquid separation. After completion of this course, the student will have: skills on modelling dispersed phases at different scales.
