Topics in Literature and Culture

Language of instruction is English.

This course explores a topic within literature or cultural history, or an interdisciplinary topic. The course may build upon themes explored in lower-level courses. A more detailed description of the academic content will be made available in the reading list at the beginning of the semester.

Candidates who have passed this course

• have in-depth understanding of a topic in literature or cultural history, or an interdisciplinary topic
• have critical insight into scientific approaches and methods relevant to the analysis of the subject material

Skills

Candidates who have passed this course

• are able to write substantial analytical texts on the topic(s) studied in academic English
• can locate and use relevant secondary sources in their work
• can use relevant theory and specialist scientific literature from the relevant discipline(s)

General Competence

• have strong oral and writing English skills
• can critically evaluate the credibility and relevance of different sources of knowledge
• develop stronger cross-cultural competency skills

A combination of lectures, seminars, group activity, and/or supervision. Students are required to use the digital course learning platform regularly and to make an active contribution in class.

Students should expect that this 7.5 credit course equates with approximately 10 hours of work per week, including teaching time.

Compulsory assignment(s)

1-3 written and/or oral assignments, equivalent to 3000-3500 words in total, which contribute to the final term paper. Specific tasks will be defined at the start of the semester.

Approved obligatory assignment is valid for 2 semesters (the semester in which the approval is given, plus the following semester).
