Special Study: Civilization

The course explores a topic of central importance to the development of society in the UK or in Ireland. The course may build upon themes explored in a lower-level civilization course.

A more detailed description of the academic content will be available in the reading listat the beginning of the semester.

To develop deeper understanding of historical processes, causal relationships, public debate, and of scientific approaches suitable for the analysis of such phenomena. To develop writing and oral proficiency in English, as well as abilities in academic argumentation.
